Marilyn Lavonne Haugen was born November 6, 1933 in Farmington, MN, daughter of Kenneth and Clara (Pautz) Millam. At a young age her family moved to a farm north of Milaca, MN where they farmed and she attended country school and then graduated from Milaca High School. Following school, she moved to Faribault where she lived with an Aunt and Uncle to help care for their children.

At a dance in Faribault she met Donald Luverne Haugen and on August 2, 1952 they were united in marriage in Milaca. Don had just been drafted into the Army and they spent the first few years of their marriage at Fort Eustis in Virginia. Following Don’s discharge, they moved to a farm near Dennison where they ran a dairy farm. In 1961 they moved from the farm to Dennison and Marilyn began working at Mel’s Food Store in Dennison and then Ryt-Way Packaging in Northfield until retirement.

Marilyn was the City Clerk for the city of Dennison for many years and was an active member of the Dennison Lutheran Church serving as the Church Secretary and a member of WELCA. She made many quilts and also enjoyed playing her accordion when she was younger. She was an avid gardener at home and was an excellent cook and baker passing down the art of lefse making to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She and Don loved to travel, taking trips to Norway, Germany, Scotland, Jamaica, California, and Hawaii. They also spent several winters in Arizona. She loved spending time with her family and grandchildren, attending as many of their sporting events and school activities as she could.
