How Does Your Garden Grow in 2017?

Staff Reoport

Hopefully in Dennison. The Dennison Lutheran Church is seeking interested area residents and community members to join us as we kick off the Dennison Community Garden. The plot of land is located just East of the church. In years past, the ground was rented to local farmers and planted to a rotation of corn and soybeans. Two years ago, the church council seeded the ground into oats and alfalfa to “rest the ground” a bit in anticipation of potential future garden plots for people to use. The church is seeking interested parties that wish to have a garden plot this year. While there will be a minimal cost to have a space in the garden this year, it will be first come first served based on available space. A free will offering to the church to help cover the cost of water (when needed) and the mowing of the area around the garden plots will be appreciated. Gardners, if they wish could also donate some of their crop to families or food shelves during the season. “Our goal is to continue to serve the needs of the community and local area, and the community garden is another way to reach out and also get people working together to grow, not only food for themselves, but some extra that could shared. It is also another opportunity for people on the area to get to know their neighbors while enjoying the outdoors and working in the dirt.” Anyone interested or potentially interested in a space should contact Pastor Paul at the church at 507-645-6042 or e -mail dennvang@deskmedia.com. You do not need to be a member of the church to request a plot space in the new Community Garden. Spaces will be reserved first come – first served basis, and we want to gauge the interest of people in the area. Further information on the new garden program will be coming in future issues of the Messenger and on the church website based on the interest from the community.
