Nerstrand Elementary School officially closed on the sale of our school building from Faribault Public Schools to Grace Lutheran Church, who will be our new landlord. There should be no change in the day-to-day operations or curriculum as a result of this transition. Faribault will continue to provide our transportation, food service, technology and custodian services, for which we are grateful.
As we look ahead, the school is going to look to form something called an Affiliated Nonprofit Building Corporation (ABC). There are criteria we have to meet such as having operated for at least six years and have a positive fund balance for the past three years. There are things we have to do to get the ABC established, such as forming an ABC board, creating by-laws and applying for a tax ID number for the ABC. This process of creating the ABC will take time; I am estimating between 12-18 months. Once the ABC is formed, Grace will transfer ownership of the school to the ABC. Again, there should not be any disruption to the day-to-day operation of the school.
