Nerstrand School Updates Community on Financial Progress

Posted

Dear Community,

As the final day of October 2022 comes to a close, I wanted to update you on the progress Nerstrand Elementary School is making. Over the past month, a lot has been happening in our small school.

A task force committee was created the night of the Town Hall meeting with the purpose of finding solutions to help NES during this time of financial hardship. Last Thursday, we held our first meeting. 16 people arrived eager to create solutions and work together for a common goal.

Out of that meeting, we can report several positive outcomes.

Our community has raised over $36,000 for our school with another $25K pledged today. You can watch our progress via the thermometer located outside Parkside. We are extremely grateful for the support. The school PTO has committed to ensuring our fifth grade students will get to go on their annual class trip. Historically that has been to Wolf-Ridge. This year, we are scoping out a new place and will be announcing that location soon. We are also beginning the initial talks with PTO to support a whole-school field trip at the end of the year.

We continue to be thankful to Faribault Public Schools for leasing us our building and for providing us transportation. Our relationship with them is important and they have been nothing but supportive. While charter schools cannot levy taxes, instead we rely on donations, we do know that Faribault is seeking a levy here in the near future. Please be sure to get out and vote.

The task force has committed to further meetings and subcommittee work. You should anticipate hearing from us as our very important work continues.

As our first trimester of the school year comes to a close, we are looking forward to the future. It is bright. Our school had to go through some difficult things (cuts) and we have to rebuild, but we can do this. We are

Nerstrand Strong.

Sincerely,

Nicole Musolf
