To the Editor:
Northfield City disclosed to AGA its contract signed October 2, 2025, by Mayor Erica Zweifel, with Hentges of Jordan for extending sewer and water utilities to the 80-acre Lyman farmland by the water tower.
Tom Tanghe, clerk of Northfield Township, reported that no annexation has occurred or is expected. Thus Nfld Twp housing developments remain under Rice County P&Z. Nor is there any water filtration plan since the April 2023 contract with Bolton for a $63 million manganese removal plant was subsequently killed by 4-3 city council vote.
Thus the only remaining mystery is who pays when Hentges sends its bill for up to $8.28 million to the city for work completed? The contract was signed by city administrator Ben Martig, director of public works David Bennett and utilities manager Justin Wagner.
